Kit Kat with Caramel

I saw this candy bar the other day on a shelf and i picked it up without much thought. I hadn't heard of it before, but it was new and interesting, so I grabbed one, brought it back to my desk, and ate it. Simple. It sounded like a good idea. I like Kit Kats and i like caramel. Both are quite tasty and how could a mash-up of the two go wrong? Is that enough foreboding so that you think i didn't like it? Well I did. It was pretty good actually.

My only real problem with this candy bar was that it wasn't as good as i feel it should have been. I don't know if you can tell from the cameraphone picture that i took, but there is very little caramel in this bar. What there is instead is a real thick layer of chocolate between the original wafer section and the intruding caramel section. As previously mentioned, i'm a big fan of caramel and double Ks, and i kind of hoped this bar would be amazing. Maybe there was less caramel because they were scared of changing the flavor too much and didn't want it to overpower the wafer? Maybe there was extra chocolate to serve as a buffer between the two to ensure that they don't mix and the wafer never becomes softer? Could that even happen? Regardless of why, the caramel was locked away in a chocolately prison, so that the most prominent flavor was just regular chocolate and not so much the classic Kit Kat taste or the newly added caramel. Of course more chocolate is never bad. Therein lies my issue of this being a tasty treat, but not living up to my expectations.

I don't really buy that many candy bars unless its a new one to see how it is. When i do happen to purchase one, i usually stick to my old favorites of Reese's cups, Almond Joy, or 5th Avenue. Sometimes even a Caramello. I don't think this new Kit Kat with caramel is good enough to have it join my upper echelon of bars, but for what it's worth, i do think it's pretty good and if you're just looking for a little change up to the Kat's flavor, it's worth a pick up. I enjoyed it, but i likely won't get another.
