Stargate Universe s1e8 - Time

Score:

Stargate Universe
Episode 8: Time
Original Air Date: 11-013-09

Despite the love that I want to feel for SGU, and the excitement that I feel when i'm thinking about the possibilities of SGU, I have been a little bummed about the meandering pace and overreliance on "drama" that I have seen so far, most notably in the past few episodes.  With just a little knowledge of this episode going into it, I must say that I was very near the edge of my seat with the expectation of our team exploring an alien world.  With a name like Time, this must be more up my alley than the past few.

I was a little down on the last episode for being a bit formulaic and a bit to reminiscent of Air Part 3.  In hindsight, i guess it was an alright standalone episode.  Maybe my expectations were a bit too high, but I love Stargate and always am wanting more and better episodes.  I really wasn't quite as down on the episode as it might have seemed, but i want more from this show.  I don't think that's too much to ask.  I also have to say, with a name like Earth, I'm a little scared of what this episode has to offer me.

IMHO, last week's episode was a piece of garbage, and i hope not an indication of what's in store for us in the future.  It was bloated with unnecessary and unconvincing drama and just seemed to defy logic and pull me out of the experience at every turn.  As such, this episode has to be better right?  Check out my thoughts on episode 6 below:

So we left off last week in a seemingly dire situation, right?  The destiny is headed straight for the center of a star with no way to slow it down or change it's course.  Sounds terrible.  Everyone's going to die?  Hardly.  I hope this episode can do something to change my feeling on the fact that there is no way the destiny will drive itself into a star and burn up.

Our crew is stuck on the Destiny millions of light years from earth. They cannot dial home. Thanks to the three part introductory story Air, however, our travelers can breathe. Life is good. No? Life is ok? No. Now that the Air storyline is done with, where will this series go? Will Rush be able to dial home or gain control of the ship? Let's see.

I come to this new television series with a storied trunk of Stargate (SG) history in tow.  I came a little late to the party to SG-1, and then got hooked and watched all 10 seasons in about a year, with my peak flow rate being a season a week for a while towards the end.  This came after I was about two seasons into SG-A, which I liked more at first, only to realize later on, that no, SG-A is not better than SG-1.  I was still quite saddened when I heard SG-A was cancelled, and wasn’t sure if/when I’d be able to get my new SG fix.  The news that SG-U would be darker and more Battlestar-esque left me very nervous that it could be really good or really bad.  That first season of the third show is now upon us, and I’ve decided that I need to review the season to determine how it stands up to its predecessors.
