We've finally arrived. This is the third and final part of the opening story arc for Stargate Universe. Quick recap: Our group of travelers survived the attack on Icarus base by escaping through the stargate using the unknown ninth chevron and arrived on the Ancient ship Destiny only to find out that they were running out of air. Now our team is heading to an alien planet in search of Lime to fix the CO₂ scrubbers with.

So here's what i liked and disliked about episode 3:

+ In the intro to the show, that i'm seeing now for the first time, i'm liking the succinct show description.  Wrong people, wrong place.  Can't dial home.  Simple. Effective.

+ A new alien planet.  Alright, finally.  Time to kick off this SG series and see what kind of wacky adventures and alien life we will encounter.

- Body switching.  Ugh.  I like that it ties this SG with the other SGs, but it seems like a forced way to keep ties to earth open.  Good thing they have name tags or i wouldn't know who's who.

+ More RDA!  I love when he tells Young to Just fix it! in reference to the ship.  Kind of acknowledging how easy it was for them to get out of life threatening situations in SG-1.

+ Eli with his Planet of the Apes references.  Annoying?  Maybe a little bit, but i liked it.

+ Scott putting Eli in charge of group 2.  Curious choice.

- Chloe going to tell her mother about her father's sacrifice. Way too long and dramatic.  Aren't there better things she could be doing with her time?  Well, i guess she can't really help with anything on the ship, so...

- Telford  being incredibly douchy as soon as he gets to the ship via Young's body.

- Rush all of a sudden whining like a child that they need to turn back.  I thought he'd do anything to ensure long term survival.  If he thinks this is so important and the only option, why is he giving up so easily?

+ Mysterious mini sand tornadoes.  Interesting.

+ Johannsen giving Telford a sedative.  Ha!  Take that!

- People (Franklin, Curtis, and Palmer) turning on Rush and heading back to the gate.

- Scott going on alone, sending Rush and Greer back.  What a hero. He's so heroic.

- Senator's wife threatening to go public.  Just lock her up.  She's annoying anyway.

+ Hmmm.  That little sand storm likes water.  I like this non-humanoid alien since it doesn't really make sense that they'd encounter standard races like in the past shows.

+ The whole dynamic of Greer and Rush walking back to the stargate.  Rush trying to take the water, saying "If it wasn't for the army, you'd be in jail.  Rush really is a douche too, like Telford.  Greer doesn't take any of his shit and pulls a gun on him.  I like how completely different these two characters are and how characters have real relationships with other characters in this show.  It's not as cartoony as the previous ones and i think this scene highlights that.

+ Greer trusting Eli to be at the gate when he returns and giving him a gun.  Again another slightly different  relationship.  I think Greer could be a really good character.

+ Scott has daddy issues.  Flashback.  Scott failed everyone and got a 16 year old pregnant.  He seemed really busted up about it.  Wasn't he just banging a chick just last episode though in a closet?  Hmmm.

+ Sand storm revived Scott with some water.  Was that because he gave it some water before?  It seems these sand storms are not only sentient, but intelligent.

+ The ship looks like a refugee camp with people and debris strewn everywhere.

+ Greer busting Scotts ass to get him moving.  He isn't just a dick with a chip on his shoulder.  Perhaps he can be trusted  in the right situations.

+ Eli satayed behind.  I wonder if Greer will remember this.

+ Less than 1 minute before the wormhole closes.  They can't make it.  Nooo! They have the lime.  Quick Eli, stick your arm into the event horizon. 20 seconds.  Insert arm...5,4,3,2,1, silence  And they're through!  Did you think they didn't make it? No, me either.  Eli gets some credit for that though.  I can see how it would be pretty scary.

+ Mmm.  Milky CO₂ scrubbers.  Air.  Reminds me a bit of the end of Spaceballs when she goes from suck to blow and replaces the atmosphere of Druidia.  The song playing here was acoustic with the line "Don't forget to breathe." Ha.

+ Everyone looks like a tomato from the sun

+ Scott relating to Chloe. That guy from his flashback was his priest, not his father.  His parents died in a car crash.  He'll never get over it.  Man, this is still a little awkward, but it's so much better than their tender moment last ep.

+ Good sense of closure.  The adventure has begun

+  Wah?!! A pod?  Ahhh!!

     I think this was a pretty good episode.  It was a little predictable in parts like when he found the lime at the very last second and when they made it back to the gate and just barely made it in time, but overall i think it was pretty good.  It's in an odd position though because it's the last part of the opening story line and has to tie that all together, but it's also the first standalone episode and should convey how the series is going to be moving forward.  Perhaps we need to wait until next week to actually see what a "regular" episode is like.  I'll sleep easier knowing that the Destiny crew can breathe, and i liked seeing a new alien lifeform, but this episode, for me, mostly just serves the function of wrapping up the intro. Bring on the adventure i say!
